The Hölkkä training vest boosts the strength and mobility of your upper body and releases neck strain and tension

The Hölkkä training vest consists of a posture-supporting vest, elbow straps and elastic resistance bands that resist your arm motions when walking or running. You can use the vest as a posture corrector in your day-to-day activities or to enhance your workouts.

Fitness enthusiast

Did you know that many runners and hikers tend to tense their shoulders and neglect using their arms? Do you need posture support or more mobility for your upper body?

Normal jogging mostly strains your lower body only, but the Hölkkä training vest ensures that your upper body muscles, too, get the workout they need. The activation of the upper body muscles helps to synchronise the movement of your upper and lower body and ensure that the seamless flow of motion also engages your core.

The vest supports your posture and includes your arms in the workout. The perfect posture and added speed boost from the arm motion will help you maintain an effective pace throughout your hike or run!

Are your shoulders tight? Does the tension in your neck cause fatigue, headaches and an aversion to exercise?

This kind of neck and shoulder tension is very common and afflicts more than one-third of the working population. The treatment recommendation for acute neck pain is activity.

Using the Hölkkä training vest when running or jogging activates the muscles in the neck and shoulder area as well as the core musculature. This increases circulation and metabolism in the muscles and helps to release any tension. The vest supports the natural position and posture of the back, ensuring that the respiratory muscles can function more freely.

You can also use the vest without the resistance to improve your sitting or standing posture when working, studying or doing chores, for example.

THESE MUSCLES ARE ACTIVATED AND STRENGTHENED WHEN USING THE HÖLKKÄ VEST

Results of the study conducted by the Varala Sports Institute on the impacts of using the Hölkkä training vest 9/2019

The Hölkkä training vest increased the strain on upper body muscles during walking, jogging and running. It also increased muscle activity in the lower limbs. This may be due to the fact that using the vest leads to higher upper body strain, increased engagement of the lower limbs, stronger impacts and elevated centre of mass upon foot contact. Correspondingly, the increased strain on upper and lower body muscles results in a measurable increase in oxygen and energy consumption when using the Hölkkä vest.

  • With the Hölkkä training vest, muscle activity of the transverse abdominal muscles was 40.0% higher when walking and 64.7% higher when running than without the vest.
  • Muscle activity of the anterior deltoids was higher during walking and running when using the Hölkkä training vest. Muscle activity was 37.5% higher when walking and 9.8% higher when jogging with the vest on.
  • As regards the total electrical muscle activity of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles, lower limb activity was higher at all stress levels when using the Hölkkä vest. Muscle activity was 4.4% higher when walking, 8.2% higher when jogging and 17.5% higher when running than at the same stress levels without the vest.
